You have inherited a classic Seaside Pier! Straight out of nowhere, a mysterious solicitor contacts you to tell you the good news, "…you are the last remaining relic of the Bazalgettes. The pier, both the building and contents are now yours. The key's are enclosed".

There's only one catch…

The antique attraction closed down, for good, in March 1988. It's a ruin! The old arcades, fairground and promenade are derelict; peeling fairground rides, rusting Victorian ironwork and malfunctioning arcade machines, and of course, the ghosts…

It started with the noises, unexplainable raps, taps and voices, centred around the old Edwardian Penny Arcade. Later came physical contact, manifestation and… trouble. People have disappeared in the old Bazalgette fragments, scraps of the pier, long forgotten by those on land. Some venture out for retro treasure hunting, others seek answers from the dead. Ghost Hunters believe the Pier is cursed, with many of the old inhabitants still walking the deck, over a hundred years out of time.

It is a small miracle that the pier still stands, defying time and the elements. The ruin should have collapsed in to the crashing waves decades ago! So why does it remain? If you truly are the last of the Bazalgette's, you may be the only person able to break the curse. Utilising a kitbag of ghost hunting gadgets and your detective skills, you have one night to explore Bazalgette Pier.

BEWARE: There is a storm rolling in from the North Sea, with high waves and strong winds set to batter the South Coast. After over a hundred years of steadfast resilience, the Bazalgette Pier may be facing the end. Only the last sea soaked remnants remain standing, yet the place echoes with the past. Is there a supernatural explanation for the piers unnatural survival?

Bazalgette Pier - Ghost Hunt

October 31st, 2005

On Halloween, 2005, a group of paranormal investigators took a less than legal excursion to the remnants of Bazalgette Pier. It is the only time the pier has been surveyed for supernatural activity. The Developers
Jonathan Boakes capturing reference shots, Penarth Pier, Wales

Jonathan Boakes created the first Dark Fall game, back in 2000, adding Lights Out, Lost Souls and Ghost Vigil over the years, to create a series of supernatural ghost-hunting games set in abandoned or isolated locations: an old hotel, a island based lighthouse, a return to the hotel for Lost Souls on to Harwood House, an abandoned formal country house, later used as an 80s children’s home.

Storm Warning takes the adventure gamer back out to sea, down the Bazalgette Pier. The location is based on Jonathan's love of old British Piers, from the Victorian and Edwardian Era. Many rainy days were spent on Hastings Pier, back in the 80's, usually around November, when the place was rain lashed by storms. "Plenty of that atmosphere is present in the new Dark Fall", says Jonathan, "the Bazalgette Pier closed down in 1988, after a mixed history dating back to its construction, in 1894. So expect 'nostalgia' element to be omnipresent, it's the actual villain in this new Dark Fall."

Matt Clark on a research trip to Paignton Pier, Devon

Matt Clark created Barrow Hill (2006) and The Dark Path (2016). These classic adventure games are supernatural mysteries with an archaeological twist. Set and built in his home county of Cornwall, the games feature the ancient Bronze Age people who have left tantalising clues to a pagan past; stone circles, menhirs, barrows and cairns can be found in every corner of the land. Matt has a superb eye for detail, helpful for an archaeologist!, and enjoys creating particles, visual effects and atmosphere. "It's a challenge to create such a distinctive weather system, a sea storm is quite different to what we've done before, where the quiet and isolation usually require eerie silence and unnatural stillness. Not this time! It's crashing waves, sheets of rain, howling winds… yeah, it's really quite different! The water effects are essential, as the ghosts are mostly present in the saline. Basically, the ghosts use salt water as a form of manifestation, as a reference to 'memory of water'. So, you don’t want to get soaked, that would be bad, the game is called Storm Warning for a reason."
